ok.
software is going to be my next purchase but in the meantime i needed to do a shirt for my sister- in- law
you guys said i need to stop using MS word, but this is all i know. Tell me why i cant create something in word, print it on JPSS, then heat press on a shirt.
the PDF is what I did in word last night. Using a graphic software like winpc, corel what will it do for my design? Im here to learn so be brutally honest.  Grin Grin
ok i couldnt upload a PDF so i took a picture of my screen.

You can use Word to create, and print your designs on JPSS. I think what the others were getting at is that Word has very limited capabilities.

In order to be able to cut vinyl, or do color seperations for screen printing, or size objects (graphics) without losing definition, they need to be in vector format. You need something such as Illustrator or Corel for those functions.

There are numerous other tasks you will possibly need to to access to manipulate text and graphics that aren't available in Word. Once you learn to navigate a graphics program such as Corel, you'll begin to realize just how much you can't do in Word.

A few months ago I had a gentleman ask for a design that I struggled with for days.  It dawned on me one night that what I was trying to do would be very simple in Word (it's simple in Corel, too - I just don't know how to use the envelope tool yet).  So, I won't recommend that you get rid of Word, but it is not a design program.

When someone brings in a photo of their hotrod and wants you to get rid of the background, place the car in the middle of a graphics background that you need to create using lots of bright colors including a banner that looks like it's made from diamond plate, and then give the whole thing a distressed look -- that's not when you want to go software shopping.  Poor gal will be waiting for weeks for that shirt!   Grin

Jazzy,,

Many different softwares , are great,,
They are only are as good as the user,, so whatever you use  learn it,,

If you  are doing jpss,, and it works , that is great,, use what you have,,, as you expand and explore,,  into vinyl or rhinestones all those files will need to be made in a eps format,,

As well as sending transfers out to be printed,,,

Learning eps was not easy,, but once you have it,, you have unlimited things you can create.

We all have many different softwares we prefer.. and use them all,, every day,,

I guess when I said get rid of word, I should have said,,,put it off to the side and learn something like the free Inkscape for the ( as mentioned above) additional powerful features. Communication is such a fragile thing. If its all you have at the moment and it works then by all means - use it.

if you are happy with the results then use it. when you get ai or corel you buy an entire can of worms and frustrations that go with the enhanced way of doing things.

99% of my customers DO NOT CARE how i made the design and of those 99% would be happy with just about anything i gave them.

if it works for you then keep doing it.
